Hockerill I v Takeley Cricket Club Saturday First XI on Sat 23 Jul 2011 at 1:30 pm
Takeley Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets

Match report Pinny won the toss and invited Hockerill to bat, on what seemed a slightly damp wicket………

Trevor and Liam bowled great up front as Hockerill were reduced to a scoring rate of 1 an over for the first dozen or so. 4 wickets were taken fairly early and seemed to have the home side in trouble, before a huge stand which finally ended in the last over took Hockerill to a total of 181 which was undoubtedly going to be a challenge…….’point of note’ if ever there was an example of whether we have seen the best of Conno, surely today was the day…..a huge steepling catch in the deep, of which we probably didn’t expect him to hold, which with consummate ease he did, but then un-explainably ran head first into the chain link fence post, he went down as if he’d been hit by David Haye’s Hayemaker, gave 6 runs away in the process and proceeded to lie motionless on the grass!! As his concerned team mates rushed, well more like ambled to his rescue he sat bolt upright as if he was Lazarus, to proclaim that he was alright…….Tim ‘for the badge’ Connolly, we salute you!!

Nathan was out early without troubling the scorers, but that at least enabled him to get back for family darts and BBQ!!! Tim and Ade then set about building a platform, this they did albeit not at a fast scoring rate, but keeping wickets in hand was the premium target as long as one or both could see us home….!!! They both lost their wickets around the 90 mark however, which left the tigers needing approx 10 an over from about 8 or 9 out..!! the bugle sounded and Trev was sent in, but even with his fan club in town that plan didn’t work……with Hockerill firmly in the driving seat, the opening bowler was brought back into the fold and kindly bowled in Pinny’s slot, that over went for 17 and brought huge belief in to the tigers, Liam and Pinny then put on 50 at the desired rate, before the formers top knock was ended only to bring in his younger brother ‘Foxy’ Brown….with 2 overs remaining 17 were required, the odd 2 and single were got, before the last ball was delivered to Pinny who promptly despatched it out of Hockerill and was last seen bouncing into The Fountain’s garden…….2 runs needed off the last and two leg byes later victory was snatched from the jaws of defeat, jubilant scenes then followed with hugs, hand shaking and kissing all around.!!

Well done Tigers, proud of you
