Everybody associated with Takeley Cricket Club is devastated to learn of the passing of our player, club secretary and club legend, Malcolm Brown.

Malcolm played for the club for over 25 years, featuring in all First XI, Second XI and Sunday sides throughout his career. He also latterly regularly acted as First XI and Sunday scorer. His greatest playing achievement in his own words would be his three victories in the inter-club 'Double Wicket' tournament’.

His work and presence off the field was truly immense and an example to all - serving as Club Secretary for over 24 years and leading tireless efforts in fundraising, league administration and general club support.

Malcolm single handedly wrote numerous club quizzes, raising thousands of pounds to keep the club going each season and also organised the successful annual club golf day for 25 years.

In January 2016 Malcolm led a campaign to secure a new 30 year lease for the ground, to ensure cricket is continued to be played at Brewer’s End for years to come. Without his hard work, intelligence and persistence this would not have been possible.

Alongside Malcolm’s wife Bridget (current Club Treasurer), and sons (Liam - current 1st XI captain) - (Tom - current 1st XI player) his friendship and presence was felt amongst the village cricket circuit throughout Essex and Herts.

He made many friends and acquaintances through the game we all love together, cricket.

His passion for Crystal Palace FC gave us all wonderful amusement and hours of fun each time we saw his warm and happy self. We shall so sorely miss the gentle, charming and cheeky chap we called our ‘Malc’.

Rest in peace Malcolm, you were one in a million and will be dreadfully missed.
