Takeley Cricket Club Saturday Second XI v Matching Green II on Sat 06 May 2017 at 1.30pm
Takeley Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Takeley got off to a great start to the season by winning their first game.
Skipper won the toss and chose to bowl. Trey gunn got off to a great start taking an early wicket and not conceding a run within his first 3 overs. After his 10 over spell he had taken 2 wickets and Carl Mitchell came on to take over him to bowl the spell of the innings by taking 3 wickets for 38 runs, 1 wicket including the opening batsmen who he bowled for 90. Takeley were a bit rusty in the field and could clearly tell it was the first game of the season as they dropped 7 catches. Harry Wright made up for this by taking a spectacular diving catch in the covers. The skipper loosened his shoulder for the first and last time of the season to take 2 wickets at the end of the innings.
Takeley needed 239 runs to win the match. The two openers got off to a steady start, but both got out shortly after the other. This then brang the skipper and Rob Harrington to the crease who put on a 92 partnership. Rob getting his half century and the skipper got his shortly after. Matching green made a change of bowler and brought on the 13 year old leg spinner who rob tried to sweep, but found the top edge to be caught on 53. Couple more wickets fell quickly which resulted in the vice skipper coming out to bat. Takeley needed 100 runs off 20 overs at this point. The skipper went on to get his century and finished on 111 not out and vice skipper ended on 32 not out. Scoring over a 100 run partnership to win the game with 7 overs remaining.
It was a brilliant start to the season and many more victories to follow
