Match report
A Spirited Performance Ends in Defeat
The Two’s travelled inside the M25 to face High Beach, where the skipper won the toss and, knowing he was opening the batting, decided it was better to risk getting skittled than chase a big total. In true family tradition, he requested first ball from Mac — who happily obliged.
What followed was a strong opening stand, with Mac looking in fine touch and notching a Takeley personal best of 31. The skipper, fresh off a 48 the previous week, found it harder going — struggling to connect as some quality bowling dried up scoring chances.
After Mac fell, wickets tumbled quickly. Sesh survived a very adjacent LBW shout but was caught the very next ball. The skipper followed two overs later for 19, bowled through a gate that hadn’t been installed yet. Caleb hit a couple of good 4s but then swished at one wildly and was bowled, leaving Takeley wobbling after a promising start.
Pulkit and Manish put together a steadying partnership, rebuilding nicely and setting up a late push. But as the innings drew to a close and they looked to accelerate, both fell in quick succession — Pulkit gloving one to the keeper, and Manish bowled soon after.
Then Charlie and Harrison were both bowled by identical deliveries completing a hat-trick for the opposition. Amit managed to scratch together some vital late runs, and Takeley finished on 178 from their 40 overs — better than expected, but likely below par.
With ball in hand, Harrison and Charlie opened up well. H took an early wicket thanks to a sharp catch from Amit at forward square leg. Luca bowled tidily, but a small ground, and questionable fielding from Charlie (watch the spin!), meant breakthroughs were hard to come by.
The skipper entered the attack and brought consistency and wickets, finishing with 3-28, but without regular breakthroughs at the other end, High Beach cruised to their target with eight overs to spare.
Never mind — a spirited performance with plenty to take forward.
Next up: the Two’s travel to Hockerill.
