Takeley Cricket Club Saturday First XI v Molehill Green on Sat 28 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Takeley Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report The Tigers looked to make it 3 wins on the bounce with the visit of local rivals, Molehill Green. Our opponents, weakened due to half the team being away on a stag do, are yet to register a win this year but could still provide a tough test.

Having won the toss, Captain Brown followed his regular formula and put MHG into bat. The Tigers got off to a shaky start with star fielder Timmy “Wayzer” Way going half-heartedly at a ball in the field which subsequently injured his finger. Fortunately, Wayzer has learnt from some of Ade’s previous fielding boo-boo’s and knew that a dip in a glass of water would do the trick – he later returned to the field, although could not bowl his usual medium paced off-spinners.

Tom Brown and Gus Sammons bowled some solid opening overs with many balls beating the bat, and Gus finally made the breakthrough when he dismissed the dangerous looking opener; assisted by a great catch by Sean Lemon. This would prove to be one of the highlights of an otherwise disastrous (and typically Takeley) day in the field for all involved.

Tom soon removed the number 3 batsman, caught behind by Ozzie (Ossie for if Adrian is reading) and Thakey “used to have buckets” also put down a couple of chances at first slip to leave Tom with a ‘deserved better’ 1-26 off his 10 overs. During Gus’ short spell, he became unable to breathe. Recognising this as a potential problem, the skipper took the ball off Gus and looked around the field at his team of all-rounders, knowing anyone could do a job. Selfishness took over and he ultimately decided to bowl himself; an occurrence not seen from the Vicarage end since his boyband hair days. After a vintage first ball wide, Liam found his stride and bowled his 10 overs in 23 minutes with figures of 2-15. Tom Brown (love you brother) took a superb diving catch after a couple of further dolly’s had been put down.

It was then time for youth and spin to take centre stage. Coby Miles bowled a great spell of Left arm pace, taking out the middle peg of the MHG opener who, after 5 lives, the young pin decided it was best to remove without fielding assistance.
Fitten’s mystery got the better of the MHG middle order with the batsmen not knowing which way it was turning. Chris Thake continued his fine role as innings finisher/rabbit hunter with a quickfire 3-for. MHG finished with 141 all out – which was probably 30-40 more than they should have been allowed to make.

After a large tea, it was hoped that Takeley’s openers could do the bulk of the damage in the chase – fortunately for those stuffing their faces with the seemingly endless supply of pizza and chicken goujons, this was the case.
Liam and Sean got off to a flying start with the captain reaching 50 within 13 overs. He was dismissed soon after and the new boy, Sean Lemon took over, ending with an excellent 51*. He was ably supported by Adrian Phillips who actually nearly managed to hit a 6 – keep trying Ade, one day it will happen!

A 9 wicket win for the Tigers who continue their winning streak and head to Willingale next weekend looking for a further 26 points. Thanks must got to Bridget for the tea, Malc for scoring (all Brown’s mentioned, tick!) and Damon for his excellent umpiring stint.
