Match report Back-to-Back Wins for the Two’s!

The Two’s made it two home wins in a row with an enthralling victory over Lion Hawks. On a sweltering day where temperatures reached 32°C, the skipper was relieved to win the toss and chose to bat first.

JC and Caleb opened up, but Caleb fell early, picking out square leg with a short ball. JC and Joe steadied the innings, building gradually. Joe looked in great touch, with an exquisite pull shot a highlight — where had that been hiding during his time at Takeley? Sadly, he couldn’t repeat it and was bowled playing across the line.

Pickers came in, cracked three fours, then chipped one tamely to cover. Debutant Pat Roach’s day to forget began with a simple chip to mid-off, and Nashy was unlucky to inside-edge onto his leg and see the bail flop of the stumps. At 123-5 (how satisfying is that?), the skipper joined JC at the crease.

JC upped the pace, launching a couple of sixes before falling at long-on for a well-made 78. Sensing the moment, the skipper kept the momentum going, accelerating as the run rate climbed above 8 an over. Charlie, sticking to his “six or sticks” mantra, was bowled. Trev smashed a few quick boundaries, and Takeley finished on 225, with the skipper posting a personal-best 48*.

Confident of defending the total, Trevor and Charlie opened the bowling — youth and experience in tandem. Trevor delivered a tidy 2-36, while Charlie bowled quickly and was unlucky not to claim a wicket. Then things got messy: the skipper’s spell began with five wides and ended after two overs, JC’s first over went for 17, and Pat Roach’s debut continued its theme with his sole over leaking 26. With two set batters at the crease, it looked like Takeley were staring down a heavy defeat.

But JC found a breakthrough with a caught and bowled (though he wasn’t sure how he’d done it!), and Luca held a catch in the deep next over — both big hitters gone. Luca then claimed a wicket with a sharp stumping by Caleb, though runs were still flowing.

Sensing an opening, the skipper turned up the heat, and Lion Hawks’ tail crumbled. From 169-3, they collapsed to 191 all out. JC added two more wickets, including a strange LBW decision in which the umpire eventually conceded it had to be out, while the skipper stormed through with three bowled victims to seal the win.

A dramatic collapse secured a brilliant victory — back-to-back wins for the Two’s!
