Takeley Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Ones Win in Style
The Ones got back to winning ways with an imperious victory away at Stansted. On a fiercely hot day, the skipper lost the toss and Takeley were put into the field. Knowing that Stansted is often a batter’s paradise, the bowlers needed to be disciplined, and that’s exactly what they delivered.
A brilliant opening spell from Wayzer and the returning Bob put Takeley in control early. Tim got the first breakthrough, bowling the opener via an inside edge, and a sharp catch by Paaaaat off Gus saw both openers back in the hutch quickly. A moment of alert fielding from Vamsi, combined with some lazy running, saw Stansted’s skipper run out. Gus then bowled the number three with an absolute beauty and finished with “ridiculous” figures of 2-8 from 8 overs. With the pressure building and boundaries hard to come by, Stansted began to take risks. That only led to more chances, and Takeley capitalised with some outstanding fielding. Pulkit and Vishal both bowled tightly and picked up two wickets each, including a brilliant slip catch by Buckets. Veer and Ozzy finished off the tail, and Stansted were all out for 110 in 34 overs.
In response, Matt Furrer and Paaaaat opened the innings. True to form, Matt looked to hit every ball into the next postcode, but was bowled for 17 off his pads. Vamsi joined Pat, and the pair made light work of the chase, rotating the strike and dispatching anything loose with some classy strokes. By the 18th over, Pat was on 41 and Vamsi on 38, who would get to 50 first? Well the Answer was Vamsi, has he reached his 50 whilst scoring the winning runs.
A well-earned post-match pint followed, even if the glasses were warm.
The Ones travel to Cloghams next week.
