Match report Two’s Suffer Another Narrow Defeat

The Two’s slipped to a third consecutive defeat, this time in another close contest against Albury.

After being stuck in on a tired pitch, Sesh and Caleb got things off to a strong start, scoring quickly and punishing anything loose. But on a surface that always had one with your name on it, Sesh (22) fell to a low shooter right in front. Mac followed soon after, bowled, bringing Ashley Harrington to the crease for his first innings in six years.

Caleb (39) looked destined for a maiden Takeley 50 before a wild swipe brought his downfall. A classic Takeley collapse loomed as Matt Furrer (12) and AJ Suresh fell in consecutive balls. Gus, having promoted himself to No. 7 this season, looked to rebuild alongside Ashley, who batted fluently before falling to a sharp caught and bowled for 44.

Once Charlie was dismissed, 200 looked a stretch — until some late fireworks. Harrison (Adam) Thake launched two big sixes, and young Albert chipped in with a couple of clean strikes to lift the total. With the 200-mark passed, the skipper gave himself license to hit out and ended with an all-time best 40 before being bowled.

With 200+ on the board, Takeley started well with the ball. Charlie opened the bowling but was forced off after just two overs due to a lower back injury. Gus and Harrison stepped up, both bowling tightly — Gus finishing with 1-18, Harrison an economical 0-9. At drinks, Albury were 55-2 and Takeley had control.

However, things quickly turned. Takeley had no luck as Luca and AJ struggled for consistency, while Albert bowled well but came up against an in-form Albury skipper who would go on to make a match-winning century.

Another solid effort, but not enough to secure the win.

Next up: an away trip to North Weald.
