Match report Wasteful Two’s Rue Missed Opportunities

The Two’s began the second half of the season with a frustrating away defeat to bottom of the table Hockerill.

The skipper won the toss and chose to bowl a decision that looked inspired early on. A superb opening spell from Charlie and the skipper reduced Hockerill to 12-5 and had Takeley dreaming of a quick finish. But a simple dropped catch by Caleb proved a turning point, shifting momentum and allowing Hockerill to rebuild.

JC and Luca bowled tidily but offered one boundary ball too many each over, which helped Hockerill recover and sneak up to 163 from their 40 overs. After such a dominant start, it was disappointing not to bowl them out.

In reply, Hockerill kept things tight and applied pressure from the outset. Mac’s indecision saw him play on, and after collecting eight runs through edges past the keeper, Joe eventually nicked off for real.

Then came the collapse. From 56-2, Takeley slumped to 65-9, a string of poor shots turning the game firmly in Hockerill’s favour.

However, a superb last-wicket stand of 68 gave the scorecard some respectability. Luca dug in for a gritty 9*, and Charlie found the boundary regularly on his way to his second 40 of the season.

Despite the late fightback, the damage had been done.
