Match report Two's Fall Short Against High Roding 3s

The Two’s couldn’t make it back-to-back victories, falling to a frustrating defeat against High Roding 3s.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the innings got off to a shaky start as the Two’s slumped to 50-4. Vice-captain Pickers (22) and Matt Furrer (30) began to steady things but were both dismissed in quick succession, leaving the score at 97-7. A crucial 70-run partnership between skipper Gus Sammons (23) and Charlie Mugele (43) gave the innings some much-needed respectability, setting a defendable total.

Unfortunately, defending that total required discipline with the ball and sharpness in the field — neither of which quite materialised. Misfields leaked easy runs, and dropped catches at key moments allowed High Roding to stay in the hunt. Tight spells from Gus (1-16), JC (1-21), who took a mid-spell toilet break, and Luca (0-25) helped apply some pressure. A sharp stumping by Caleb off the bowling of Ozzy even swung momentum our way briefly.

But in Ozzy’s final over, two dropped catches and four boundaries saw the game slip away. High Roding chased down the total with three overs to spare.
